"The next generation of this technology will mean that you put one little hole in the patient and then put snake-like arms through that hole."
- Dr. Michael Palese (Business Insider, speaking about the future of Robotic Surgery)
SURGICAL ROBOTICS:
The TITAN SPORT™ System
Contributing Human Centered Designer
The TITAN SPORT™ Surgical Robot is a minimally invasive system that uses a single port of entry to perform a multitude of surgeries. The system is designed to be nimble, light and small enough to move between operating rooms. The portability of this system allows surgical teams to operate within their current infrastructure.
Our team was able to help our client reach critical milestones, including gathering user-needs research, achieving technical feasibility, and performing live-tissue testing in just 15 months.
Learn.
Working with interdisciplinary teams to develop 1:1 scale prototypes used by Key Opinion Leaders that provide information to the team on human factors and usability considerations. This information also provides internal architecture organization.
Build.
Utilize learnings to develop forms that facilitate transport, surgical use, clean-ability, and maintenance without sacrificing brand identity. We focused on building the models due to scale, as well as the ability to understand usability in ways 2D development wouldn’t be able to tell us (visualization, footprint, reach, touchpoint location, etc.).
Obsess.
During system development, we focused on the ability to locate and maneuver touchpoints in low light environments without having to look at them. We also created adjustments to accommodate the wide range of surgeon shapes and sizes to ensure comfort during use.
